We have included this topic because we believe that all the job tips in the world cannot help an individual unless their attitude is right. It is a well-researched fact that employers prefer to hire an employee with a positive mental attitude or ‘can do’ approach to work and enthusiasm will communicate itself to those around you. We always recommend to job applicants to have an attitude that conveys the following message:
Somebody out there has a great ……it’s got to be me!
During your job search, constantly remind yourself of your capability to locate a suitable job and that there is a fantastic opportunity waiting for you. Discard all ‘negative’ thoughts that are not supportive to your job search. Listen to advice and guidance that will help make progress in your job search and not the unhelpful talk that will paralyze you with fear. Fear is not useful in a job search situation because it closes you down instead of opening you up to all the opportunities that exist out there.
The Job Search Attitude Checklist
Reach For The Stars
For those who dream up more goals than they accomplish, here are some helpful tips certain to deliver more success when it comes to accomplishing your goals.
Take Time
Take 30 minutes to sit down and write ‘what’ you want and ‘why’ you want it. The more time you invest in this simple task, the greater your return of success. These are your goals.
Make Your Goals Smart
Make sure your goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic & Time-based. SMART goals are milestones to the stars in your life.
Tell someone you trust.
Tell someone who cares about your success and who will support you. If this person doesn’t exist in your life, get a mentor. This person is your cheerleader with a ringside seat.
Mark your Deadline.
A firm deadline is a smart deadline. It heightens your focus, motivation, and commitment to getting the work done now (as versus never). So make sure to record the deadline in your PDA.
Review it.
Make this deal with yourself: If you don’t accomplish the goal by your stated deadline, review the goal. Break your goal into a ‘two stage’ goal. You can focus your energy better and achieve two successes.
Affirm it!
Affirmations work. They shift your perspective and expand your ‘possibility thinking.’ Create one that feels absolutely incredible to say out loud as often as you need to.
Track it.
Daily or weekly, track every action you’ve taken towards your goal. This is a no-fail approach to knowing what’s working, what isn’t and what’s left to do. It ensures you remain on course.
Take One-A-Day.
Take an action (however big or small) every single day that supports your goal until you reach it. Never give up!
Try, Try, Try…
Try every idea, hunch and ‘what if.’ You’ll always get something for something but rarely something from nothing.
Reward
Each time you achieve a goal, reward yourself no matter how small. Even a candy bar counts as a reward. It is a symbolic gesture of satisfaction with your achievement. It will motivate you to your next star.
Give Yourself Permission.
There is power in permission. Give yourself permission to take a break, to over-succeed, or whatever else you want. Permission liberates, energises, inspires and empowers. You can give yourself permission to reach for the stars!
